It’s Flood Safety Awareness Week

It is Flood Safety Awareness Week (March 18-22) from the National Weather Service.

NOAA convenes an annual Flood Safety Awareness Week with the intention to “highlight some of the many ways floods can occur, the hazards associated with floods, and what you can do to save life and property.” The web page at the National Weather Service’s website dedicated to the week contains some gruesome infographics relating to flood deaths in the United States. For instance, 39% of flood deaths occur while driving while only 4% happen while hunting. Click here to view the infographic.

Other graphs inform us that 71% of flood victims are male, most are between the ages of 30-39, and September is the deadliest month for flooding.
